Epsom Salt also known as Magnesium Sulfate, is used as a healing agent and pain reliever. Today, it’s most often added to hot baths and foot soaks to reduce body pain and muscle spasm.

Magnesium is a trace mineral and required in small quantities in our body. Once Epsom Salt is dissolved in water, it releases magnesium and sulfate ion, which are then absorbed in your body through pores.

The Magnesium absorbed in the body helps to relieve pain, and to some extend fill the deficiency gap of Magnesium in the body. It also helps to expel toxins from the body.

Often Essential Oils, dried flower petals, Himalayan Pink Salt are added to Epsom Salt for added benefits. Essential oils generally used are Lavender, Peppermint, for their aromatherapeutic uses. Lavender helps to de-stress and Peppermint acts as a refresher, and helps in muscle spasm and pain.

How to make a foot soak

  1.   Soak your feet for 20 – 30 minutes twice a week.

  1.   Moisturize your feet thoroughly after soaking them.

If you experience any redness after the foot bath, it’s normal, and caused due to the combination of Epsom Salt dissolved in water. The redness should disappear in few minutes.

It has NO ODOUR at all.Simple intermediate chemistry says that presence of calcium and magnesium salts in water reduces lather of soap. That is why, water is heated. The process is conversion of hard water to soft water.Since, we are adding the salt again, into hot water, “DO NOT WORRY IF YOU DO NOT GET ENOUGH LATHER”. NO NEED TO BLAME YOUR SOAP.     I had come across an article about health benefits of Epsom salt (MgSO4) on muscle health and pain relief. I use magnesium in another form orally. So, I began searching on Amazon and I found this product, took a chance and ordered it. It comes in a nice zip lock kinda pack. 1 kg. The salt should be stored away from water and air since it absorbs moisture from the air I.e. hygroscopic.I used to mix two tablespoons of it in hot water and a few drops of lavender essential oil (as I don’t have a bath tub etc) and have a normal bath. I have procured KHADI NATURALS LAVENDER AND YLANG YLANG HERBAL BODY WASH from Amazon and mixed more than 1 table spoon (first time errors ) and had a bath.Since the product is extremely pure, it mixes in water very quickly. It has NO ODOUR at all.Simple intermediate chemistry says that presence of calcium and magnesium salts in water reduces lather of soap. That is why, water is heated. The process is conversion of hard water to soft water.Since, we are adding the salt again, into hot water, “DO NOT WORRY IF YOU DO NOT GET ENOUGH LATHER”. NO NEED TO BLAME YOUR SOAP. IT IS THE SALT THAT REDUCES THE LATHER.One can taste the salty water when bathing, if some of it enters one’s mouth All in all, a fantastic product to reduce muscle cramps etc. Instructions are given on the pack.     Salt grains are fine/powdery, easily dissolves in water, packaging is good. I suggest get a cheaper one from other brands if you cant pay the premium. I use it for Sitz bath so no idea about gardening. No scent at all.

    My heels used to be cracked all the time I have used many products and home remedies none of them worked…. But Only once I had done pedicure at one beauty parlour with crystal lotus pedicure products that was only once that I was happy with my feetso clean n tidy not soft coz my skin is rough it doesn’t soften even with any moisturizer or foot cream.But when I soaked my foot in Epsom salt my feet got clean only in one wash all dirt came out with a simple foot scrubber I am v happy and I hope my search for a good product for pedicure at home is over….     While the product worked as expected, the product pack had a small tear in the bottom through which some amount keeps spilling. Some amount was lost during shipping. The ziplockis useless, it cannot be sealed. Ziplock failure and bag puncture required us to transfer the content to another container. This made the whole idea packing in aziplock bag useless.
